Super Lawyers describes their objective: “to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource for attorneys and consumers searching for legal counsel.”

Step 1 – Nomination

Nomination for Super Lawyers yearly consideration is limited to peer nomination, Super Lawyers’ own research team, third party feedback and managing partner surveys. No attorney can nominate him or her self, nor are attorneys allowed to campaign.

Step 2 – Independent Research

In the second step, candidates are evaluated on 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition. The factors include. among others: Verdicts/Settlements, Position Within Firm, Bar or Professional Activity, Experience, Honors/Awards, Education and Employment background, Special Licenses and Certifications.

Step 3 – Peer Evaluation

Those candidates with the highest scores serve on the Blue Ribbon Panel and evaluate other candidates within their primary practice area. Candidates are reviewed within their practice area, and are compared with lawyers from similarly sized law firms to determine the attorneys in the final selection.

Step 4 – Final Selection

Final candidates are contacted verify their published information and that there are no bar complaints, disciplinary matters or other issues that may cast the nominee in a negative light.

In the final selection process only 5% of attorneys in their practice area from each state are selected to Super Lawyers, ensuring that only the best attorneys are listed in Super Lawyers top attorney listings each year.
